Fatigue properties of the Titanium Alloy

The paper deals with fatigue properties of the Titanium Alloy used for high performance machine components. The influence of shot-peening on fatigue properties was investigated. The specimens were machined from the titanium die forgings. Two sets of specimens were tested – one set of un-peened and second set of peened specimens. Both strain controlled low cycle fatigue test and stress controlled high cycle fatigue test were carried out using plain specimens. The testing was performed in fully reverse tension/compression (R=-1). In addition, stress controlled testing of un-peened notched specimens in repeated tension (R=0) was performed. The analysis of the fracture surface of selected specimens was carried out. The conclusion regarding the influence of shot peening on fatigue properties has been drawn.
